Calculating date and time conversions |
Using World Clock Deluxe's Time Converter is very easy. Suppose you are in New York and don't want to miss an important conference call set up in Tokyo. The conference is set to begin on September 20, 2008 at 10:30 AM Tokyo time. Which is the corresponding date and time in New York?
Choose Pane > Time Converter and open the Time Converter pane. Select Tokyo in the left list, enter the Tokyo date and time (9/20/2008 10:30 AM) in the left clock and select New York, NY in the right list: the right clock automatically shows the corresponding New York date and time, which is September 19, 2008 9:30 PM.
Besides corresponding dates and times, the Time Converter also indicates:
1. whether standard time or daylight-saving time is in effect in the selected cities for the specified date and time (on September 19, 2008 daylight-saving time is in effect in New York, whereas Tokyo has standard time),
2. the time offset between the two local times (the difference between Tokyo and New York time is 13 hours on September 19, 2008: you will have to add 13 hours to New York time to obtain the corresponding Tokyo time and subtract 13 hours from Tokyo time to obtain the corresponding New York time).
About the Time Converter in general now:
1. The Time Converter lets you calculate date and time conversions involving two cities or a city and a time zone or two times zones. To display time zones and world times (Coordinated Universal Time, Internet Time) in a list, click City in the column heading and select Time Zone in the displayed pop-up menu.
2. The Time Converter lists can be sorted by city or country, time zone or abbreviation by clicking the corresponding column heading. To reverse the sort order, click the triangle that appears when a column is selected. To resize a column, point to the vertical line between columns. When the pointer changes, drag the column to a new size.
3. The Time Converter calculates corresponding dates and times and their offset and indicates whether daylight-saving time is in effect in the selected cities.
4. Conversions are calculated from left to right, if the left clock is input clock and from right to left, if the right clock is input clock. If you change the left city or time zone, the left clock is automatically adjusted so that the left date and time match up with the right city or time zone, date and time. Similarly, if you change the right city or time zone, the right clock is automatically adjusted so that the right date and time match up with the left city or time zone, date and time.
5. To swap the left and right cities or time zones and the corresponding dates and times, click the Invert button. To show the current date and time in the selected locations, click the Current Date & Time button.
