You can add, remove, or rearrange Special menu items, you can add favorite files and frequently used folders, and you can choose what type of volumes you want to display and whether to resolve aliases.
Open Application Wizard and choose Window > Menus. Then click Special Menu in the sidebar.
To add an item to the Special menu, click the Add (+) button in the toolbar and choose the new item.
To add a file or folder to the Special menu, click the Add button and choose File or Folder. Browse and select the new item and click Add. You can also add files and folders by dragging them from the Finder to the Special Menu list.
Important: To browse your Documents, Desktop, and Downloads folder using the Special menu, make sure that Application Wizard can access them.
On macOS 13 or later, open System Settings, click Privacy & Security in the sidebar, click “Files and Folders”, locate Application Wizard in the list, and make sure the Documents Folder, Desktop Folder, and Downloads Folder switches are on.
On macOS 12 or 11, open System Preferences, click Security & Privacy, then click Privacy, select “Files and Folders” in the list on the left, locate Application Wizard in the list on the right, and select the checkboxes next to Documents Folder, Desktop Folder, and Downloads Folder.
To rearrange items in the Special menu, drag them in the list.
To remove one or more items from the Special menu, select them in the list and click the Remove (-) button in the toolbar or press the Delete key.
To replace a file or folder, select the item in the Special Menu list and choose Change File or Folder from the Action pop-up menu in the toolbar. Browse and select the new item and click Change.
By default, the Special menu does not resolve aliases, but you can decide to replace aliases with original items.
To show original items, select the “Resolve aliases” checkbox. Resolved aliases will be marked with an arrow.
The Special menu lets you easily copy file and folder paths to the Clipboard. You can choose a path style from the Copy Path submenu or directly choose the Copy Path menu item. To specify the style of the Copy Path command, use the Quick Copy Path pop-up menu.
If you have added the Volumes item to the Special menu, you can decide what types of volumes (hard disks, external disks, removable media, connected servers, inactive disks) appear in the menu.
To choose what types of volumes appear in the Special menu, select the checkboxes of the types of volumes you want to show in the menu. Showing inactive disks lets you mount disks that you have ejected.
If you have multiple internal startup disks with macOS 10.15 Catalina or later, for disks other than your current startup disk, the Special menu will show only the APFS system volume, just as the Finder also does. To show both APFS system and APFS data volumes, deselect the “Hide APFS data volumes” checkbox.
Important: To browse external disks, removable media, and connected servers using the Special menu, make sure that Application Wizard can access them.
